Find the Fresh Food Friends
Find the Fresh Food Friends™ is a fun and interactive scavenger hunt activity that makes market days more interesting to kids of all ages. Young people learn the names of new fruits and vegetables, and create associations with the important people growing food they eat. Fresh Food Friends ™ inspire laughter and are great conversation starters.
How it works: Every Saturday, we create a “fresh food friend” at each grower’s table. Young shoppers then hunt for the food friends on the tables. When they find a Fresh Food Friend, they write down the name of the vegetable or fruit, the name of the grower, and a caption - what that food friend might be thinking, feeling or saying. They turn in their completed game card for a small prize.
It's kind of like “Where’s Waldo?”, only with vegetables and fruit. Many of the growers have a funny little fresh food friend hiding on their tables each at market throughout the entire season. Families and kids use their keen eyes to spot them. They look for a vegetable or fruit with black-eyed-pea-eyes, and other facial features. Kids and families learn about specific vegetables and deepen relationships with their local growers. Prizes are awarded for found “friends”. “Food Friends” have become popular on social media and are a great way for people to connect with your market online.
